A Tourists Guide to Rome

If it is your first time to visit Rome, then there are must-see places that you should not miss. There are so many places that you need to see and experience since Rome has a rich history with architecture that isnothing like anything you have seen in your life. If you go to these places that are mentioned below them you will have some very memorable experiences that will be with you for as long as you live.

The place that used to be dedicated to the Roman gods is the Pantheon. IT is an impressive structure with granite columns and ancient marble. The opening of the ceiling at the center allows you to view the sky. It now houses tombs including the one of the famous artist Raphael.

If you have seen the battle of gladiators in the movies, then you would recognize the Colosseum where these battles where help and which is a famous Roman landmark which is its largest amphitheater. The Colosseum is always filled with tourists so if you want to see it and dont want to wait in the long queues, the make sure to arrive before it opens or just before it closes.

The Trevi found is a famous wishing well where thousands of people make there wishes by tossing a coin in. This is the most famous fountain in the world.

You should also visit the Castel SantAngelo which was used as a mausoleum for an Emperors family. Later years transformed it into a fortress, a museum and a film location for a famous movie. It is said that the Archangel Michael appeared on top of this landmark to signify the end of the plague and was renamed to commemorate him.

The Catacombs tell us the creepy history of Rome. These are the burial places of Christians and Jews who were not allowed to bury their dead within the city walls. These are underground passageways where they buried their dead. If you dont want to get lost inside the Catacombs, then make sure that you dont go inside alone. You need to go with a catacomb tour. The Spanish steps are 135 steps connecting the Spanish embassy to the Trinitia dei Monti Church. This staircase boasts to be the largest and most famous in Europe.

The ST. Peters Basilica is said to be the place where the Apostle Peter was crucified and buried. The Catholic religion holds this as their famous landmark. This structure is very impressive with its tallest part standing 400 feet high. The enormous dome that Michelangelo designed stands at the top of the church.

What used to be the center of ancient Rome, the Roman Forum is now reduced to ruins. These are remains of government building that has been preserved even after thousands of years.

The newer landmark in Rome is the Victor Emmanuel II Monument built to commemorate the first king of a unified Italy.
